CAT

CAT composes of two projects: Cure or Healthcare  and We Thirst or Water Projects are our second most prioritized projects as discussed below:

Healthcare or Cure Project addresses health issues affect people in the rural towns and villages in South Sudan. Through this project we help the local clinics or dispensaries with medical equipments and supplies. The local clinics are operating in extremely poor conditions. They also lack of professional medical staff. We provide health training programs where and when necessary. We plan to conduct the community health awareness and training but lack of funding hint our plans.

We Thirst Project or Water Project addresses lack of clean drinking water in the rural villages. We help build new water pumps or repair existing ones.

Drilling Wells Water

Worldwide, water is the essential element for the well-being of the people. In many places in South Sudan,  people do not have access to clean drinking water.  Adult females and children spend many hours each day walking long distances to collect water. Even though, they find water from natural sources such as rivers or swamps, waterborne diseases lead to a multitude of serious health problems, many life-threatening.

The villages of Makuach and its sub-surrounding villages never had a well until 2012. In 2012, we managed to drill one well, which is not enough for Makuach village and nine other villages surrounding it. Traditionally, people drink water from the rivers or swamps or  dug boreholes. However, drinking water obtains directly from these sources stated above cause many diseases. Water contamination is rampant, resulting in many waterborne diseases. Drilling the wells in Makuach village was seemed as the reborn of people’s lives in the village. Makuach village people  were greatly excited seeing clean drinking water eventually available in their area. Unfortunately, the only drilled well was not enough for more than 20,000 residents. More are needed!

We Thirst Water-Drilling Wells

In 2014, Dominic revisited his village and confirmed the greatest need of more water wells in the village. Through We Thirst Water project, we need to drill five water wells that supply  clean drinking water to  where families and communities do not have access to clean drinking water. Drinking clean water along with sanitation and health training result in an immediate, drastic solutions that improve health conditions in the villages where illiteracy is high.

Why Drinking Wells in Makuach Village?

The significance of the wells is not just providing the people in Makuach village with clean drinking water, but it helps girls to increase their attendance in the school. In the Makuach village, many girls  walk miles every day to fetch the water for the families. If girls were to go to school, they had to leave a school early to go home and go for fetching water.

Increasing School Attendance

Many girls do not attend school due to the limited time for schooling and fetching the water. Therefore, it is important to building  five more wells in Makuach village, not only it help the population in the area but it will also help students drink clean near schools. More importantly, it will definitely help girls to fetch the water near their paces and they never travel a long distance to look water.

Preventing Disease

Many people get sick easily when drinking water they obtain directly from other sources of water other than the drilled wells. Therefore, fetching and drinking water from the wells can prevent many diseases especially cholera. In South Sudan,  many young children die each year of cholera and other water–related diseases (Ministry of Health Report, 2014, Juba).
